Chris’s Story: a scary encounter with cows and a bull

The bull appeared in front of the gate… about two metres away.

On the 13th June, 2021, I was walking with a group along a footpath in Eaton Dale, near Alsop en le Dale, in the Peak District (Grid reference: SV 16978 55586)

We came to a field with a waterhole next to the gate. Did a check of the field before entering, and saw there were cows but did not see a bull or calves. They looked like dairy cows.

A Farmer’s Story: charged by cattle

I trust cows, but I know when they turn…

On the 3rd April, 2021, I was walking with my family through Aston Hall Farm, in Wen, Shropshire. On the 3rd of September, 2020, my sister and I were walking along a footpath up to the summit of Nicky Nook Fell, near Skorton, in Lancashire. We were heading from east to west and had my twelve-week old puppy on a lead with us.

Jan’s story: saved by her walking poles

On the 25th of June, 2020, I was walking with my friend and his dog. We were on a footpath on Bethecar Moor, near Oxen Park, in Cumbria. We crested a hill in the middle of a field, and saw that cattle were dispersed generally across the field, so it was not possible to walk around them.

Aggressive cattle and ruined walks.

A pleasant walk was turned into a nightmare.

We receive many reports from people describing how their peaceful walk was disrupted by the actions of aggressive cattle.

In many of these cases, nobody has been seriously injured, but people have been badly frightened. What should have been a pleasant experience was turned into a nightmare. In addition, many people report feeling apprehensive about future walks in the countryside. Continue reading “Aggressive cattle and ruined walks.”
