ncident No: 1318
Date: 13.10.26
Site: Timberscombe Common, Timberscombe near Minehead, Somerset
1 horse, 1 pony and rider. Group of cows.
Sophie’s Report : “I was hacking my horse back along the bridleway across the centre of the common towards the village, when the cows saw me and charged at me. My horse and the pony I was leading bolted. I managed to pull them up and span round shouted and tried using my whip to stop them, they slowed down.”
” I managed to get off my horse and try and walk the horses away whilst using my whip and shouting trying to push them away. They kept following and every time I turned away, they would run at us. My horses were extremely distressed snorting and trying to protect me.”
“I feel very lucky to be alive and not injured and that my horses are ok. If my daughter had been riding her pony she may have been killed by falling and being stampeded on. This is not the first incident with these cows and it certainly is not safe for walkers or riders!”
Sophie added a comment: “Make the common a safe place for people to walk and ride. Remove dangerous animals that will potentially injure or kill someone.”
