288,999,605 incident number 758
On the 24th August 2023 Jules was walking with her husband near St Lawrence, on the Isle of Wight Coastal Path, a popular walking route for ramblers. No dog was involved on this walk.
The path passed through a gate into a field where there were several cows and calves. The couple passed through the gate and found themselves surrounded by the cattle. They managed to get the cattle to back away, when suddenly one cow charged and knocked into Jules’s husband and pushed Jules to the ground.
This could have been such a serious attack but luckily there was a post van at the far side of the field, the postman saw what happened and honked his horn, this scared the cattle and they backed away. Jules and her husband managed to escape the field. They were saved by the quick thinking postman.
Jules said “I want to highlight this danger to other walkers, the area we were attacked is part of the popular Round The Island walking route.”
They have informed The Ramblers, The Local Authority and a neighbour said they would report the attack to the farmer.
Jules believes this incident is not being investigated.
Killer Cows believe this sort of incident should be logged in a central database.

I completely agree that there should be a database where these incidents are logged and also made public. Notices should be placed clearly on gates/routes so that others can make an unformed decision before continuing their walk.

Yes! At the moment the Health and Safety Exec only examine those attacks resulting in serious injury or death and then they can only prosecute the livestock owner if there was a previous injury that they knew about (eg someone died or nearly died and HSE were informed.) If they have a central database then they can check for minor injury patterns and hopefully stop dangerous attacks.
