Natural Born Killers, by Siân Boyle

We discuss the recent Sunday Times article. THANK YOU to everbody who had contributed their stories.

The Sunday Times recently published a long piece on cattle attacks by Siân Boyle. The article featured on the front cover of the magazine, had a full 2-page title spread inside, along with 5 pages of information and personal accounts.

The Article and Media Interest

Read the Sunday Times article (behind a paywall): Natural Born Killers

Thank you to Siân for taking the time to research and write this excellent article. Thank you also to the victims and survivors who were prepared to relive traumatic events and talk to Siân about their experiences.

The article kicks off with the story of Teresa and Michael Holmes, who were both trampled by a herd of cows in 2020, resulting in the death of Michael and permanent paralysis for Teresa, who will spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair. It describes how Kathy McKellar was killed in 2022, and how another walker will always live with guilt because she didn’t make more of a fuss when that same herd of cattle had attacked her in 2018.

Since the article was published, we have received several requests for interviews – and a big THANK YOU to those contributors to our database who agreed to share their stories and talk to the media about their experiences. A special thank you to Libby James, who relived her attack while being interviewed by Evan Davis on BBC’s PM programme. You can listen to a recording of Libby’s interview here.

Our Database

Along with the flurry of media interest, we have received another 31 reports via our Report an Incident form. We have read every single one – thank you to everybody who has taken the time to submit an account. The reports vary, of course, from frightening near-miss encounters with no injuries, through to people who have sustained injuries from trying to escape, and include some more serious cases. We will be publishing a selection over the next few weeks.

For those whose stories are not published here, do not be concerned. Your information has been added to our database. Every report submitted is important, because it helps us to understand the scale of the problem and provides information for our campaigns. Thank you to everyone who has contributed.

Please don’t forget to share our posts on social media, so that other victims can find us.

We also have a twitter presence @killercattle and a Killer Cattle Facebook page
