Woman trampled to death by cows

Trampled to death in a field

It is always heartbreaking to report another death. This time, a 55-year-old woman has died after being trampled by cattle at a farm in Sussex.

The attack happened a couple of days ago, on the morning of Monday 22nd August, 2022. Emergency services were called to a field in Rowner Road in Billingshurst – ambulance crews and the air ambulance attended – and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sussex Police are not treating the woman’s death as suspicious, but it appears her fatal injuries were the result of being trampled by cattle in the field where she was found. Officers are continuing to investigate the attack and are appealing for witnesses around this area of Billingshurst at the time of the incident to come forward.

A statement from Sussex Police: “Information can be reported to Sussex Police online or on 101 and quote serial 577 of 23/08.”

According to local media (Sussex World) a man who lives nearby said that he thought the woman was walking her dog, and believed that another person had previously been injured in the area by cows. Apparently there is a public footpath close by.

Brief details of the attack appeared in the BBC news, ITV news, and Yahoo.
