In Febuary, this year, I was walking near St Nicolas in the Vale of Glamorgan, in Wales. I was on a footpath with my dog on a lead.
There were a group of cattle in the field. They saw us – and charged across field. I ran toward the gate and just made it before the cattle reached us. They were bucking and aggressive – and they pushed the closed gate open and tried to attack us again. Unfortunately, I could not let my dog off the lead because there were sheep in field. Luckily, we escaped without being harmed.
I have reported the attack to the Health and Safety Executive, but there is no feedback yet.
This often happens in our area. Cows must not be on fields with footpaths, and you should never mix cows and sheep. Farmers must be fined if there are risks to walkers. The Health and Safety Executive needs to be proactive.
